Corona: WTA-Pause bis Anfang Mai

Die WTA kündigt eine Pause der gesamten Frauentour bis mindestens 2. Mai wegen der Coronakrise an. Tennisturnier in Stuttgart ist abgesagt.

Das Tennisturnier in Stuttgart fällt der Coronakrise zum Opfer. Die Veranstalter sagten das für die Zeit vom 18. bis 26. April geplante WTA-Event am Montag ab.

"Gerne hätten wir den Tennisfans auch in diesem Jahr wieder Weltklassetennis in der Porsche-Arena geboten. Die besonderen Umstände lassen das leider nicht zu", sagte Turnierdirektor Markus Günthardt.

"Auch für uns hat die Gesundheit von Spielerinnen, Ballkindern, Zuschauern und allen Mitarbeitern oberste Priorität", sagte Günthardt weiter. Der Fokus gelte ab sofort dem Turnier im kommenden Jahr.

Die WTA kündigte unterdessen eine Pause der gesamten Frauentour bis mindestens 2. Mai an. Auch Turniere in Istanbul und Prag können nicht stattfinden. Die Männertour (ATP) pausiert bis mindestens 26. April.
